Where Candidates Stand on the TC Energy Pumped Storage Project
Introduction
The proposed TC Energy Pumped Storage Project remains one of the most significant public policy issues facing the Municipality of Meaford and the Georgian Bay region.
As part of the 2026 Municipal Election, Save Georgian Bay invited all certified candidates for Mayor and Council to complete a questionnaire regarding the TC Energy Pumped Storage Project and related municipal issues.
The questionnaire asks candidates about project transparency, municipal costs, environmental oversight, public accountability, and other issues that may affect residents and taxpayers.
Candidate responses are published on this page as they are received and reviewed. Save Georgian Bay has not edited candidate responses, except where necessary to correct formatting or remove inappropriate content.

Why This Matters
The Municipality of Meaford does not have the authority to approve or reject the TC Energy Pumped Storage Project on its own. Key decisions involve federal and provincial agencies, as well as the Department of National Defence.
However, municipal leaders play an important role in representing residents, negotiating municipal agreements, advocating for community interests, and providing local oversight on matters that may affect the community.
For that reason, voters may wish to understand where candidates stand on issues related to the project before casting their ballots.
Why?
- “providing local oversight” is particularly relevant given your questions on transparency, costs, and PSAC.
- “issues related to the project” is slightly more neutral than simply “the project.”
